Tomorrow is a new day
Jan. 29th, 2010 04:25 pmThe first month of 2010 is coming to an end, meaning that February is just around the corner. Rather than simply writing what will amount to a cryptic post, I will explain at least a bit of what that means to me.
I, along with the other inhabitants of Attilan, returned to this world in what was for us January 2010. To the rest of the world, we returned in August 2007, but time had been passing at a much faster rate for us. For the past two-and-a-half years, I have, in a way, been living days I had already lived. They were completely different days, of course, as we spent the time in another dimension; we did not travel through time. However, there has been more than one time when I looked at a certain date and felt a feeling of déjà vu.
That is over now. Now, at the end of my second January 2010, there are no longer any dates that I have lived through. Every day is new. A new month is approaching, one that has not taken place in either dimension in which I have lived. I will never forget what happened; reminders of what took place, such as the fact that I will be turning 22 in a few weeks, that the day upon which I reach a new age is now in February rather than September, will always be there. I think that, sometimes, it is good to have a reason to remember what has happened to us, even if all memories are not pleasant, but at the same time keep in mind that the past is just that, the past.
My island country and I have now been back for two-and-a-half years. It is amazing to think about that, that we have been back for approximately the same amount of time that we spent away. So much happened in that time, both in our original 2007-2010 and in the days, months, and years we spent back here. I will be spending the weekend in Attilan, returning early Monday morning for classes.
Tomorrow is a new day. Here's to the next two-and-a-half years and whatever they may bring.

Which part; the part about the alternate dimension or the part about spending the weekend in Attilan? (Yes, I do make jokes on occasion.)
Several years ago (2.5 or 5, depending on who you might ask) the island of Attilan was transported to another dimension. There were multiple news stories done about both the disappearance and reappearance; if you do an online search, you will come across some interesting theories that people had. At that time, it had not yet been revealed that the entire royal family was comprised of mutants; otherwise it is my guess that more theories would have revolved around that particular aspect of the country and mutants in general.
The truth is is that the disappearance and reappearance was due to a young mutant's first manifestation of mutant abilities. It was unintentional the first time, but bringing the island and its inhabitants back was definitely an intentional use of the ability to move everything within a certain area to an entirely different reality. As we found out later, the passage of time was not the same in both dimensions, so while to the outside world we were only away for six weeks (although that was still plenty of time for concern) to those of us who had made the move, over two-and-a-half years passed. This is why, while I was born only five days before Laurie, I will be turning 22 in one week while she is 19; this is the age I would now be if this event had not occurred, but it is actually the age I was when Attilan returned to this dimension even though I had been 16 when we vanished.

...You like to write a lot, Ms. Amaquelin.
And I'm not really that much of a news reader. Well, I wasn't, so I really didn't know something like that actually happened...and to you of all people.
Just when I was starting to think nothing could surprise me anymore.
