I am not a "princess"
Jun. 22nd, 2006 01:05 pmTo whom it may concern,
I believe that we have a misunderstanding. People here appear to believe that being a member of a royal family immediately makes one a prince or a princess. This is not true. I am not a princess. I have never been a princess. No one really calls me “Princess” or refers to me as “Your Highness.”
In regards to me, if you really feel the need to make some sort of comment referring to title, “Lady Crystal” or “Your Grace” or “Your Ladyship” are more appropriate titles to use. I would prefer that you simply call me by my first name, Crystal, but if you sleep better at night by making what you feel are derogatory remarks against me, please, at least use terminology that is accurate.
Thank you,
(not Princess) Crystal

I don't know much about royal families one way or the other, but there's one thing I do know - namely, if I didn't call someone by their first name when they wanted me to, I'd be something of a hypocrite after all the effort I've put into getting people to do that with me over the last couple of years.
So when I finally do get to meet you - and I've been delinquent in that respect, my apologies - you'll be Crystal and I'll be Nathan. Sound good?

You are an adult. There is a bit of a difference between the idea of you calling me by my first name and the idea of me calling you by your first name.

Not really. You'd prefer people to call you by your first name as opposed to a title, as would I. 'Princess' and 'Mr.' are both ways of distancing yourself from the person to whom you're speaking. If there's respect there, the title doesn't matter.

At least they don't call you evil.
Oh, and they do sleep better at night with the derogatory remarks. Just wait 'till someone tells you that your attitude will result in your violent and painful imminent death.

You're in a cheerful mood today. Is it a special occasion?

Ah. That it is.
Are you still mauling the heavy bag on a regular basis? I've not been spending as much time in the gym as I should lately, so I'm curious...

Sometimes people might call you things like 'princess' as a sort of nickname, an affectionate joke. I know I'm big with that myself - maybe this is along those lines?
And if it isn't... don't let it bother you. Some people are just cranky sometimes, is all, and it's been a weird couple of weeks by all accounts.

This is sort of off topic but I'm sorry for running off in the middle of our conversation at the ice cream party. Wasn't anything to do with you.
